Can we start climbing Mt. Fuji on the evening of June 30?

by Raul
(Sydney)

The trail opens on July 1st. Is that as of midnight? Will huts be available? Because we were thinking of climbing overnight starting at night on June 30 - in to the morning of July 1st. What do you think?

Not sure, but maybe OK

Raul, Japan is a very punctual country, and as I recall from last year, the trail officially opened @ midnight, but I remember reading that many climbers were already on the summit for sunrise, so that means they probably started hiking on the evening of June 30.

But if you'd like to confirm for sure, you might want to contact the kind folks @ the International Affairs Desk, Fujiyoshida City Hall (8:30-5:30, Mon.-Fri.): 0555-24-1236 (+81-555-24-1236 from overseas)

As for the Mt. Fuji mountain huts, last year a number of them opened in mid to late June, as you can see on this page: Mt. Fuji Mountain Huts

Best wishes...
