Cell phone reception on the climb to Kita-dake?

Hello, thanks for sharing all the info on the trail! I have a question on whether there is cell phone reception on the trail or at the huts in this area of the Alps? It would be great to know!

You're very welcome.

Cell phone service in the Japanese mountains is very spotty and cannot not be relied on consistently. There was a story on the TV news just the other day about some junior high school boys who had to be rescued in the mountains and couldn't call out on their cell phones.

It also depends on the cell phone service provider, as coverage areas vary considerably from company to company.

I use NTT Docomo & climbed Kita-dake last summer. I got a cell phone signal at the Kita-dake-sanso mountain hut in the afternoon I arrived and was even able to check my email, but couldn't get it again the next morning.

It, of course, depends on your location....with reception being better on the summits.

Some mountain huts, like Kita-dake-sanso, do have pay phones, though.

Happy hiking !!
