Climbing to Mt. Hoei via Fujinomiya trail on Sept. 18, 2016

Hello Gary (and others),

Great site.

I understand the Fujinomiya trail will be closed after September 10th, 2016, but (if the weather is good) I would like to hike just as far as Mt. Hoei on September 18 or 19.

A few questions...

- Will I be physically prevented from ascending the trail between the 5th and 6th stations after September 10th?

- Will I be physically prevented from ascending the trail between the 6th station to Mt. Hoei after September 10th?

- Will I need to submit a climbing plan beforehand?

- Will I be allowed to drive to the parking area of the Fujinomiya 5th station after September 10th?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Cheers,

Floyd

Thanks, Floyd.

According to this page (http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/arrange/travel/practical/pdf/Mt.Hut_Mt.Fuji.pdf), last year both the Unkaiso & Hoeisanso mountain huts @ the Fujinomiya trail 6th Station were open as late as October 13th.

And according to this page (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6930.html), this year the Fujisan Skyline, which goes up to the Fujinomiya 5th station, will be open to private vehicles from September 12th, 2016 until it is closed for winter in late November.

As for the need for a climbing plan, it is in theory required anytime in the off-season, although I'm not aware to what extent that would actually be enforced so soon after the close of the official climbing season.

For more details on off-season regulations including how to submit a climbing plan, you can check out this page: http://www.fujisan-climb.jp/en/risk/guidelines.html

Hope this helps.

Happy trails...
