Do you have any recommendations of a tour that we can join from Kawaguchiko?

by Jia

Hi, my friend and I are planning to climb Mt. Fuji on 8-9 Aug 13. We will leave from Tokyo, but would like to continue our journey to Osaka after the descent and spend another day in the Kawaguchiko area.

Do you have any recommendations of a tour that we can join from Kawaguchiko (either bottom of the mountain or the 5th stn)?

Also, how safe is it to climb on our own, and what are the logistics required, e.g. booking of the hut?

Thanks!

I'd recommend you check out the Fuji 5 Lakes (富士五湖, Fuji-goko)

Hi Jia,

I'd recommend you check out the Fuji 5 Lakes (富士五湖, Fuji-goko), although I'm not aware of any tour that starts from around Mt. Fuji. They all depart from Tokyo.

Here's a good page @ Trip Advisor to check out things to do in the Kawaguchiko area: http://bit.ly/111xEa4
And here's some info on buses that'll take you to the Fuji 5 Lakes (富士五湖, Fuji-goko): http://transportation.fujikyu.co.jp/english/gettingaround/index.html

As for the safety of hiking alone, you'll have plenty of company, as you will be climbing during peak season (Aug. 4-15). If at all possible, I'd avoid the weekend, when it's MOST crowded. And I don't think it's possible to make hut reservations during that peak time period.

Have a nice climb!

Cheers,
Gary
