How do you get from Hakone to the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station?

by Hernán Rosario
(Puerto Rico )

Hi, this year will be my first time in Japan and my plan is to get from kyoto to hakone to visit this place and between July 18 and July 20, climb Mt Fuji. My question is, how do I get from Hakone to the fifth Station of Mt Fuji (the easy trail, yoshida). Do I take a bus? Train? Taxi? Thanks in advance.

Hernán, according to the Tourist Information Center (TIC) (which I contacted today on your behalf), from Hakone-Yumoto Station you can take the Hakone Tozan train up to Gora Station (last stop), and from there take a bus to the Gotemba Premium Outlets, and from there another bus to Kawaguchiko Station. That's where you can catch the climbing bus up to the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station.

Depending on where you're staying in Hakone, another option might be to take a bus from Togendai Station, which is next to Lake Ashi (and at the bottom of the Hakone Ropeway), to Gotemba Station and from there you can catch another bus over to Kawaguchiko Station.

You can find last year's climbing bus schedules from Kawaguchiko Station up to the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station on this page: http://www.japan-guide.com/bus/fuji_season.html (these timetables should be updated within the next couple months for the 2016 climbing season)

For more details, I suggest you contact the TIC(*) directly, as travel agency consulting is not my forte, especially when I'm not getting paid for it. :-)

Have a great trip...
