I plan to climb Mt. Fuji sometime between September 20-30, 2015. Is it possible?

I know that the climbing season is closing at the end of September. I remember climbing it in late September 1992 and I do not know if it is possible to go up when the climbing season is over.

I would like to stay overnight in the cabin near the top - please could you advise if it is still open at the end of September? Thank you very much. I am a great fan of Mt. Fuji and Japan.

Not a good idea

Hi Irena, thanks for stopping by. I have ancestors on my mom's side from the Czech Republic.

Last year the main Yoshida Trail was the last Mt. Fuji route to close on Sept. 14 (the other 3 trails closed on 9/10). After that, bus service was reduced, and there were no mountain huts open in late Sept. above the 7th Station:

Plus, by climbing that late in the year, you always stand a good chance of receiving a significant snowfall. Moreover, prefectural officials frown on off-season climbing and the Yamanashi Police Dept. even requires a form to be submitted for winter climbs.

I suggest, if possible, you try to climb Fuji-san during the official climbing season, the dates which have not been announced yet for 2015.

Best wishes!

Cheers,
Gary
