New Zealand Is Associated With Sheep

by Eriko T.
(Tokyo, Japan)

Unfortunately, I've never been to New Zealand. But if I have a chance, I'd like to visit there! When it comes to New Zealand, New Zealand is associated with "Sheep." ☆o^____^o☆

I've heard that there are more sheep than people in New Zealand! What a surprise!!!!!!!! Can you imagine it?

New Zealand has a population of about 4.3 million.
(2009, Statistics New Zealand)
And the number of sheep is 34.1 million.
(2008, Statistics New Zealand)
It used to be said that New Zealand had 20 times more sheep than people. However, now there are only 8 times as many sheep as people.

In other words, the number of sheep has steadily decreased. But on the other hand, the number of dairy cattle has increased. There seem to be several reasons for that. That's a very interesting topic!

I think the number of sheep shows the beauty of nature in New Zealand. I hope New Zealand keeps its beauty of nature forever. ♥

Thank you for reading!

Wow, what a great story, Eriko ! And that's such a CUTE pic of the sheep.

Yes, I heard the same thing about New Zealand, that there's more sheep than people.

And I agree with you that it shows a true appreciation in New Zealand for nature.

Thanks again for your very informative & interesting story...

Gary
