One Thousand and One Nights

by Wiwi
(Bremen, Germany)

Sandy deserts with oasis and palms, Bedouins, and One Thousand and One Nights. These things are of course not only based in Saudi Arabia, but come to mind when I think of an Arabian state.

Oriental fairy tales were narrated by Scheherazade for one thousand and one nights to save her own life. Some of them are well-known all over the world like “Aladdin,” “Sinbad the Sailor,” or “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.”

These stories are often read in nurseries and many movies are adapted by them. I do not know about the other countries, but the phrase “Open Sesame!” from “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves” became a winged word in Germany, so you can imagine the influence of the fairy tales.

In the end I think the fairy tales from Scheherazade give us an good idea of oriental flair.
