War times

by Ivan

The only thing I know about Singapore is about the Japanese occupation during WWII in which Singapore had another name, something like "south island" in Japanese. This lasted for 3 years, from 1942 to 1945.

The Japanese were very strict during the occupation, in fact I think they were cruel to Singapore people, like the massacre of Chinese people in which about 30,000 people died!!!

They were also forced to build a special railway called the death railway from Thailand to Burma in which a lot of people died because of the poor conditions in which they lived.
