We'd love a suggestion for a moderate to difficult 2-3 day hike in Japan.

Hello,

You seem like the best English language source on the mountains of Japan, so I was hoping you had some recommendations for my upcoming trip.

I'll be traveling from late November until late Dec. with my wife. We'd love a suggestion for a moderate to difficult 2-3 day hike. We did the Tour de Mount Blanc last year, and have some experience in the Smokies. We aren't expert mountaineers by any means, but we are comfortable with anything that doesn't require crampons or ropes.

We'll be bringing along a tent, so campgrounds along the way would be preferred. Can you think of anything during that season that would fit those criteria? Perhaps there are a pair of sub 9000 ft summits with camping in a valley between them...maybe with limited to no snow in early Dec.?

Thank you for your time and your wonderful site.

Nick

I'm afraid I can't help you...

Thanks, Nick.

I'm not a big fan of winter climbing, so I'm afraid I'm not a very good reference source for you. :-)

As you can see from my list of the highest mountains in Japan, the latest I've ever climbed Japanese peaks is in October.

What I'd suggest is that you post your question in Facebook's very helpful "Hiking in Japan" group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/9872778764/), and you'll probably get a good answer there.

Thanks for visiting my site & have a great hike...

Cheers,
Gary
