Which Japanese mountain range should I go to in August?

Hi Gary, I plan on taking a nice month in August this year to climb the mountains in Japan.

I really loved your detailed plan for Mount Tateyama, and the entire range. Right now I am torn between which range I should go to.

Could I ask for your advice on pursuing the right mountain? I love sunrises and sunsets.

I have planned out since I received this reply. If I were to get there in August, you mentioned in the blog that there is no private cars to get to Kamikochi. Is there one right now? I was planning to get to Matsumoto Station and find a way to get to Kamikochi.

Thanks a lot Gary. I appreciate it.

Honestly, I was looking at tateyama before I messaged you. Thanks for the recommendation.

I recommend Kamikochi.

Thanks, Yu.

There's something magical about the spectacular beauty of Kamikochi (上高地), surrounded by 8 of Japan's 17 highest mountains. The famous pedestrian suspension bridge known as Kappa-bashi (河童橋), which spans the Azusagawa (梓川, Azusa River), is one of the most photographed tourist spots in all of Japan.

Kamikochi is the birthplace of Japanese alpinism, which was first popularized in Japan by British missionary & climber Rev. Walter Weston in the late nineteenth century.

For more info on hikes in the Kamikochi area, you can visit this page: Mt.
Oku-hotaka-dake (奥穂高岳) & Mt. Yari-ga-take (槍ヶ岳)

Happy trails!
