Arriving NRT @ 16:45. Transport to Fuji?

by Emily
(U.S.)

Arriving NRT 16:45, figuring 1 hr customs and then what is the fastest way to Shinjuku to catch the bus to Fuji?

Should we take the bus directly to 5th station? I figure if we catch the 19:30 bus and arrive about 2100, is that a good time to try to climb?

Or should we plan to stay at one of the huts? If so, any recommendations for night's lodging on late arrivals?

so JR best?
by: Emily

So the fastest way is JR train to Shinjuku station and hope for the express to 5th station bus from there? (not the NEX+access pass I read about somewhere else?)

arriving late on the 21st and hoping...if miss the bus there are later ones or should we try a taxi (4 of us)? cost?

last if we get to 5th station then there is no place to sleep should we bring bags? is the store open all night?

Maybe you can still make online bus reservations
by: Gary Wolff

No advance reservations are necessary for the trains from Narita airport, but you might be able to still make online reservations for the Fujikyu bus from Shinjuku to the Fuji 5th Station (http://transportation.fujikyu.co.jp/english/gettinghere/12.html) or the Keio bus (https://www.highwaybus.com/rs-web01-prd-rel/gp/foreign/frgSelectLine?lang=en).

Pls. be mindful, though, that the peak climbing season is 8/4-8/15, so you could be SOL... :-(

so I will try reservations asap, is that possible online since I am not there yet? or must I telephone?

if I make a reservation and miss may I take the next train or is it lost?

Keisei Skyliner. Too late for hut reservations
by: Gary Wolff

Depending on what time you can catch a train, I believe the fastest way to Shinjuku from Narita airport is the Keisei Skyliner to Nippori Station, and then the Yamanote Line to Shinjuku. Or you can take the JR Narita Express directly to Shinjuku, without transfers.

But I don't think you can get on the 19:30 Shinjuku bus (which arrives @ the 5th Station @ 21:55), if you haven't already made reservations.

The same goes for the huts. Right now in the peak of the climbing season, I doubt you'll be able to make reservations.

Personally, I prefer hiking during the daytime, but yes, in order to see the sunrise from the summit, most people climb during the night.

Best wishes....
