Guam's Beautiful Scenery

by Shiomi T.
(Tokyo)

Guam has very beautiful scenery. I went to Two Lovers Point where I could see the whole Tumon Bay. But the thing that I was crazy about was at McDonald's where I was handed a drink cup, and I was surprised at the American size.

"What is this?" I asked my friend.
"It is a free refill system," he said.

However, McDonald's in Japan does not have this same system. In addition, I recognized that American "iced tea" means "iced lemon tea."

Here in Japan, "iced tea" has three kinds: tea with milk, tea with lemon, and just straight tea. American "iced tea" was very sugary for me. But I became crazy about it, so I bought a 1-kg pack of iced tea powder which is "LEMON FLAVOR."

Sadly, I drank a lot of it, then I put on weight...

Iced Lemon Tea
by: Gary Wolff

Shiomi-san, I enjoyed reading your story about Guam & iced lemon tea.

Yes, free refills is fairly standard for coffee and tea in American restaurants.

One of the biggest adjustments I've had to make in Japan is the lack of fresh-brewed coffee and iced fountain drinks in Japanese convenience stores.

Hot coffee in a can is ok, but there's nothing like that fresh-brewed taste, right out of the pot. And on HOT summer days, I wish SO much that they had iced drinks. Canned & bottled cold drinks from the refrigerated glass door coolers are ok, but in August, they're just not cold enough, I think.

Thanks for sharing your interesting story...

Gary
