Can you recommend any tour groups or outfitters?

by Kristen
(United States)

Hi! I am traveling to Tokyo in 3 weeks and would like to do some mountain climbing while in Japan. Can you recommend any tour groups or outfitters? I am not finding much online. I am most interested in climbing Mt. Oku-hotaka-dake & Mt. Yari-ga-take, Mt. Ontake-san, or Mt. Senjo-ga-take & Mt. Kai-koma-ga-dake. Thank you for your website, it is very informative!

Hi Kristen,

Thanks for your kind words. For me personally, it's still too early in the season for the alpine country, as I HATE hiking on snow. smiley

There are 2 outfitter sites listed on my Japan Links page, but unfortunately one has ceased operations & the other specializes in skiing/snowboarding.

Your best bet might be with one of my Facebook friends in Nagano Prefecture who's from Canada & whom I've never met, but apparently he does guiding, and posts some amazing climbing pics @ Facebook.

He also has email, but I'm not comfortable giving that out w/out his permission. With your kind permission, I'm happy to forward your email to him.

Best wishes !!

Cheers,
Gary

Thanks Gary! I would be grateful if you would share my email address with the Nagano outfitter. And I will check out the websites you recommended. I didn't realize there was still so much snow in May/June, but I think that factors into why I am having difficulty finding a guided tour. Thank you again for all the information you have provided, and safe travels in your future!

Kristen

Thank you, Gary!  I emailed this group to see if I can do a multi-day hike with them. It looks like the perfect location.
