Drunk Driving in Saudi Arabia

by Ge Juan
(Chofu, Tokyo)

There are some students from Saudi Arabia and study in my home university, that is Harbin Engineering University. But I didn't have the chance to get acquainted with any of them.

I heard about an interesting story from one of my friends, who once worked in Saudi Arabia for one year. He told me that in Saudi Arabia, there doesn't exist the problem of drunk driving.

When I heard this, the first thing I thought of is traffic conditions in Saudi Arabia must be very good. Actually, this is not the case. Although drunk driving is illegal, there is no limitation on the speed of cars on highways, and crashes often occur.

The way they deal with traffic is very simple——just send the wounded to the hospital. If the wounded person dies, the other side just needs to compensate for it and doesn't have to go to jail. So I think in Saudi Arabia, you must be careful on the road.
