England Culture and Music

by Naoto "Nao" Hojo
(Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan)

Japanese people call The United Kingdom "Igirisu," which means "English," and regards the UK as one country. However, it consists of some countries, and England is one of those countries.

It is interesting that the Queen's English has different pronunciations and is spelled differently from American English; for example, "neighbor" is written as "neighbour" in England.

England made a lot of famous music. For example, The Beatles, which was the most famous rock band in the world, is from England. I like old England rock bands like Yes, Asia, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc.

That music is mixed with Rock, Jazz, Classical, Ska, and various kinds of music, and their music has complication. Some people say they stole the idea of African Americans' Jazz, but I think introducing the essence of various kinds of other music made their own music so popular.
