Hi Gary,

Thankful for your website. Among the many sites/blogs on hiking in the Japan Alps (English ones), this one of most helpful for my preparation.

do you know any website where i could look for hiking partner? Planning to do a 3 days hike in the first week of June. The route is still the finalized.

Also, Have a couple of questions for you..

How is the Kamikochi to Oku-hotaka-dake to Yari-ga-take route at the beginning of June?
Do you suggest to avoid the Daikiretto?
Would it be necessary to bring Crampons and/or ice axe?

Thank you,

Will

Too much snow up there for me

Thanks, Will. I think your best bet is to join and then post your question in Facebook's "Hiking in Japan" group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/9872778764/

As for Oku-Hotaka-dake/Yari-ga-take trail conditions in the 1st week of June, these links might give you some idea about the amount of snow still up there:

Yes, I think crampons/ice axe would definitely be necessary, and as for the Daikiretto, once in my lifetime was once too many. :-)

Best wishes...

Cheers,
Gary
