Scotland kilt

by Lee JungHong
(Chofu, Tokyo )

Because of not going to another country, I don't know Scotland. However, when I was 15 years old, I had a class called world history. It was very interesting for me. Of many countries, now I remember the Scotland skirt. At that time, I was curious about the skirt called "kilt."

If almost all people imagine Scotland, probably it is the skirt which is worn by men. If one has no knowledge about the skirt, he might ask, "What is this?" ^^ He will laugh, but it is a traditional garment.

In the case of Japan, almost all women wear きもの (kimonos) in festivals. Furthermore, other countries have traditional clothes for each nation.

I forgot the kilt's detailed information because I have studied the class 10 years ago. So I had to search the kilt by using the Google search engine.

The Scottish kilt displays a uniqueness of design, construction, and convention which differentiates it from other garments fitting the general description. It is a tailored garment that is wrapped around the wearer's body at the waist starting from one side, around the front and back, and across the front again to the opposite side.

If I have a chance to wear a kilt, I will do it! And I want to walk in Tokyo with my girlfriends. ^^
