Singapore's flogging

by Tu Qingqing
(Chengdu, China)

There are very few civilized countries more severe than Singapore's punishment. Even the litter, smoking in public places, and not blunt public toilets will be punished thousands of dollars, and even will be prosecuted.

However, among many of the punishments, Singapore's physical punishment - flogging is the most remarkable representation. Flogging is used by very few countries in the world.

Singapore's law describe flogging as: "for a serious situation, prison authorities can give up to 12 whips, or by order of the prison judge can change to as many as 24 whips; as for people under the age of 15, thy can only be punished with 6 whips.

Because of the heavy pain from flogging, criminals prefer to stay in jail several years to flogging. But that is not possible, unless the law is changed. The effect of flogging can last very long, not only because of the pain from punishment, but also the effect on daily life.

Such as, it is hard for a man who has been punished by flogging to find a wife. I think that is why Singapore is such a well-organized country.
