When should I make my 2024 Mt. Fuji mountain hut reservation?

by Mark

Hello!

First, I have been using your website a lot to navigate my trip to Japan. Thank you very much for all this hard work!

I am coming in Mid-June and hope to hike Mt. Fuji. I know this is a bit early, but I am an experienced hiker and I'm looking for huts open at this time but it seems Sato-goya is the only one open at that time. Is it just still too early, or is this truly the case?

If so, when should I make a reservation? Can I wait for 2 weeks before or should I do it now?

Thank you!

Mark

No later than May
by: Gary Wolff

Mark, because it was the first climbing season since all Covid travel restrictions were removed, in 2023 the mountain huts filled up quite quickly and some of them were already fully booked for the whole season by the end of May. And it’s my understanding that most of them didn't accept reservations before April.

As you can see on this page, List of Mt. Fuji Mountain Huts, in 2023 there were no huts open above the 5th station before the opening of the season. Of course, what will happen this year is anyone's guess.

What I would do is choose the hut where you want to stay (I had a very delightful stay at the 7th station Kamaiwa-kan hut a few years ago) and next April start checking their website every week or so... that way you can be notified as soon as they start accepting reservations for the 2024 climbing season.

Happy trails and thanks for visiting my site…

Cheers,
Gary
