Will Yoshida trail amenities, buses, etc. still run up until the 9/14 closing date?

by John

Hi Gary, I'm planning a trip to Japan in September and this site is proving very useful for the Fujiyama part!

A quick clarification, when you say the season for the Yoshida trail is until 9/14, what does this mean - that amenities, buses, etc. still run up until this date? Does that mean they're closed for the other routes. I note the bus timetables still have Aug 31 as the end date...

Thanks! John

5th Station coin lockers may not be large enough for larger suitcases.
by: Gary Wolff

John, it's my understanding that some coin lockers are available at the 5th Station, but may not be large enough for larger suitcases. So you may have better luck down @ the train stations, especially since by then the peak of climbing season will've already passed.

Have a nice trip....

Will there be lockers big enough for our 2 suitcases?
by: John

Thanks for the info Gary, much appreciated.

We've modified our plan to travel from Tokyo and climb the Yoshida Trial overnight on Friday Sept 5th.

One final question for you if I may - as we plan to climb having come from Tokyo and will remain in the 5 lakes area for a few days, we will have all of our luggage with us (2 suitcases). We will need to leave them in lockers overnight while we climb (otherwise we'll need to pay for a hotel an extra night in order to store them). Will there be lockers big enough at the 5th station or even down in Fujisan or Kawaguchiko?

Thanks
John

Not necessarily
by: Gary Wolff

John, bus & mountain hut schedules are independent of the official trail closing date and not all 2014 schedules have been posted yet. Bus service is available in Sept., but is quite limited....e.g. once or twice a day or only on weekends. You could always take a taxi, but that would be expensive.

For last year's bus schedules to the Yoshida Trail's Fuji Subaru 5th Station, you can check out this site (also click on "Getting Around" tab for local bus schedules): http://transportation.fujikyu.co.jp/english/gettinghere/index.html

As for this year's schedule for mountain huts on the Yoshida Trail, this page should help (updated July 4, 2014): https://www.garyjwolff.com/mt-fuji-mountain-huts.html

The other 3 routes from the Shizuoka Prefecture side close on Sept. 10.

Best wishes...

Gary
