I'm not aware of any stats on how many folks actually reach the Mt. Fuji summit, but as recorded by infrared counters near the 8th station on all 4 trails, the number of Mt. Fuji climbers reached an all-time record of 320,975 climbers in 2010, before the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake & Tsunami.
Mt. Fuji was closed in 2020 due to the plandemic, and numbers have recovered only slightly to about 160,000 climbers last year due to continued border entry restrictions to foreigners.
As of today, April 29, 2023, proof of covid vaccinations or a negative covid test will no longer be required to enter Japan.
